Religious Entities and Non-Profits

The Religious Entities and Non-Profits Practice, which is headed by a former seminarian, provides counsel and representation to religious entities and non-profits in helping them navigate the multitude of issues facing these unique organizations including formation and governance, employment issues, contract matters, liability and litigation, and operating policies, while helping them be consistent with, and true to their mission. Our counsel and representation of religious institutions and non-profits is varied and diverse and includes:

  • Defending all manner of litigation including matters before the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commissions, the EEOC, Federal and state courts, and Pennsylvania and New Jersey agencies
  • Preparing and navigating the waters of IRS 501(c)(3) applications and compliance
  • Performing internal investigations
  • Drafting and reviewing By-Laws, policies, and handbooks to assist in minimizing exposure to litigation
  • Advising in issues of formation, daily operation, and governance
  • Interaction with governmental entities
  • Counseling in matters of public relations and crisis management
  • Interaction with governmental entities

We recognize that our non-profit and religious entity clients are unique in that they are mission driven organizations that see their objectives beyond the operation of the entity and find fulfillment in the service provided to their community. We bring our personal experiences serving religious institutions and non-profits, and our work representing small business and government entities together to address the unique challenges that our non-profit and religious entity clients have and provide them with the personal attention and specialized counsel that they need and deserve.
